A pre-handover checklist for a Donnybrook home
Including the code items owners never think to look for.
In short: Handover here still turns up code issues, not only finishes. This is what to check.
Get it in the diary early
Practical completion is your last leverage. A week gives everyone room.
The damp proof course
It has to be visible where the code requires. Rendered or paved over and it cannot work or be checked.
Weep holes
They must sit at the height shown on the approved drawings, not wherever the bricklayer chose.
The slab
Cracking measured, not eyeballed. Ours came in at 2mm to 4mm and sat over the tolerance.
Ducting
Ducts connected and secured rather than lying loose in the roof space.
Grading
Site grading finished so water runs away from the house rather than towards it.
